MELBOURNE, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers defeated the Florida Tech Panthers by the run rule for the third straight game on Sunday to complete the sweep at Nancy Bottge Field. The Bucs won 9-1 in six innings.

After getting shutout twice on Saturday, the Panthers (25-22, 12-12 SSC) jumped out in front of this one. Taylor Peterson led off with a double and pinch runner Brooke Smith scored on a double steal after an Amanda Bueno single.

But the Buccaneers (29-16, 16-5 SSC) responded with nine unanswered runs, aided by four Panther errors. In the third, Natalia Ojeda, Megan Copeland and Sarah Broeseker each singled to load the bases with one out. Julie Brito tapped a ball to Peterson at third, but catcher Nicole Shinsky could not come up with the throw, allowing Ojeda to score. Kelly Martinez followed with a two-run single.

It was a similar story in the fourth. Ashley Fernandez and Copeland singled and then, with two outs, Broeseker tripled to right center, driving them in. Broeseker came around to score after an errant throw from second baseman Kelsey Donahue.

In the fifth, Martinez singled and Kayla Monroy drew a walk. Ojeda followed with an RBI single to score Martinez.

Krtistina Pazienza belted an RBI double in the sixth, scoring pinch runner Christal Cruz and Martinez scored on another bad throw from Donahue.

Alexis Yohe (16-6) was the recipient of the offensively explosion. One day after her perfect game, she scattered eight hits, allowing just the one run, and struck out five. Taylor Smith (8-7) took the loss for the Panthers. She allowed three runs, none earned, on four hits in 2.1 innings. Amanda Smith surrendered six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and a walk in 3.2 innings.

Martinez led the Bucs at the plate, going 3-for-3, scoring twice and driving in two. Broeseker was  2-for-4 with a triple, scored twice and drove in two. Ojeda, Copeland and Brito also had two hits each.

The win leaves the Bucs one game behind Saint Leo for first place in the SSC and tied with Tampa in second place.

The Bucs return home to close out the regular season this week. They will face Palm Beach Atlantic in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 5:00 pm, and then have their final SSC series against Eckerd on Friday and Saturday. The Lions face Florida Southern, while Tampa closes with Lynn.
