Four Bucs Men's Tennis Players Advance to Finals

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Four Barry University men's tennis players advanced to the finals in three different Flight bracket championships at Rollins College's Varner Invitational.

Barry's Fabian Groetsch will play Lander's Vincent Verpeauz in Sunday's 11 a.m. Flight A singles final. Groetsch was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over teammate Kevin Sielmann in the semifinals.

Eduardo Alfonzo will meet Bucs teammate Ahmed Triki in the Flight B finals. Alfonzo defeated Lander's Niklas Terhost, 2-6, 6-1, 10-0, in the semifinals. Triki beat Lander's Adam Johnson, 6-3, 6-3.

Barry's Nico Dreer will play for the Flight C singles title after beating Bethune-Cookman's Gres Almeida, 6-0, 6-1, in the semifinals. Dreer plays Cookman's Gilbert Rotich in Sunday's 11 a.m. finals.

In doubles play, Barry's Sielmann and Echenique advanced to Sunday's 9 a.m. Flight B finals with an 8-4 victory over Rotich and Almeida. Sielmann and Echenique play Lander's Paolo Fernandes and Verpeauz in the championship match.

In the Flight A doubles semifinals, Groetsch and Triki lost to Lynn's Vlad Cirla and Alessio Iannozzi, 8-5. 

Leo Vivas defeated Rollins' Malte Christesen, 6-3, 6-1, to win the Flight A consolation draw title. In the Flight B consolation semifinals, Barry's Franco Echenique got by Florida Southern's Vladimir Barabash, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the consolation finals.
