BOCA RATON, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers continued their run through the Sunshine State Conference, dispatching the Lynn Knights 2-1 at the Lynn Soccer Field on Tuesday in women’s soccer action.
The win keeps the Bucs (10-3-1, 5-0-1 SSC) undefeated in conference play and clinches a spot in the upcoming SSC Tournament (Nov. 5-9) for the first time since 2004 (the 2005 tournament was cancelled due to hurricanes).
Lauren Manna got the Bucs out front early. After a great build up, Tamara Vuckovich sent a long cross from the right wing to Manna at the far post and Manna beat Lynn keeper Megan Dolan for the first score in the ninth minute.
The lead held up until the 80th minute. After a near goal from Lavinia Nkomo, Dolan punted the ball out of the back and, after a flick on, Jordyn Turner split a pair of Barry defenders to come in one-on-one with keeper Becca Rogers and her low shot to the far post even the match at 1-1.
The Bucs finally put the Knights (4-6-3, 1-2-2 SSC) away in the 87th minute. After winning a corner, Manna made a perfect service to the far post and Amber Smith, up from her center back position, ripped a shot from 25 yards out to the upper left corner over Dolan’s head for the game winner.
The Bucs held a 10-7 edge in shots and held Lynn without a corner until the final 0:10 seconds. Becca Rogers picked up her 10th win of the season, making four saves for the Bucs. Dolan took her first loss in goal and also had four saves.
The Bucs travel to Tampa, Fla., to face the Tampa Spartans on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7:30 pm.
