WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry junior guard Juan Ferrales has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, presented by VALIC.

Ferrales scored a career-high 34 points to lead the Buccaneers to a 95-93 win over Belmont Abbey, keeping Barry undefeated on the season. The junior from Pembroke Pines, Fla., scored 21 points in the second half to bring the Buccaneers back for the win. Ferrales solidified the win by hitting 3-of-4 free throws with under 40 seconds left in regulation. The guard hit seven 3-pointers, including 4-of-6 in the second half. He went 7-of-11 from the field in the second half, while also collecting three assists and two steals in 36 minutes of action.

He is the first Buccaneer to claim the league's weekly honor since Willie Whitfield did so on Jan. 11, 2011. Ferrales leads the league in scoring at 23.8 points per game.

Barry will host Tampa in the SSC opener 4 p.m. Saturday.
