Onila Repeats as SSC Women's Tennis Player of Week

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University sophomore Emma Onila has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week presented by VALIC.

It marks the second straight week, the Bucharest, Romania, native has claimed the award. She also won the award once as a freshman.

Onila, the NCAA Division II No. 8-ranked singles player defeated Florida Southern's No. 22 Magda Riutort in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in No. 3 Barry's 9-0 sweep of the No. 11 Moccasins. The nation's No. 1 doubles team consisting of Onila and Linda Fritschken then defeated No. 10 Sabine Goge and Riutort of Florida Soutern, 8-0. Against No. 22 Tampa, Onila and Fritschken defeated No. 22 Meg Wladimirski and Lauren Hewett, 8-2 in Barry's 8-1 victory over the Spartans.

She is 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 4-0 at No. 1 doubles this season, with all of her wins coming against nationally-ranked opponents.
