Tennis Takes on Rival Armstrong Sunday at IMG

Barry University's tennis teams will play national rival Armstrong Atlantic State University Sunday at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to complete a three-match weekend for both teams.

Barry's No. 3-ranked women's team play at No. 8 Saint Leo Friday at 2 p.m., at Eckerd Saturday at 10 a.m. before meeting No. 1 Armstrong, the defending national champs, 10 a.m. Sunday.

The Bucs No. 1-ranked men's team plays Eckerd at 3 p.m. Friday, No. 8 Saint Leo 1 p.m. Saturday and No. 2 Armstrong 10 a.m. Sunday. 

Barry's women's team is off to a 5-0 start this year with wins over No. 15 Florida Tech, NAIA No. 7 Embry-Riddle, No. 11 Florida Southern, No. 22 Tampa and No. 21 Nova Southeastern.

The Bucs men's team has won 33 straight, dating back to the start of last year. Barry has beaten No. 43 Florida Tech, No. 27 Valdosta State, Flagler and NAIA No. 1 and defending champ Embry-Riddle this season.

Barry's women's team beat then-No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic, 5-4, in the regular season last year in Miami Shores before losing to the Pirates, 5-3, in the NCAA quarterfinals in Surpise, Ariz. 

The Buccaneers men's team beat then-No. 1 Armstrong, 5-4, in Miami Shores during the regular season a year ago, and also beat the Pirates by the same score in the NCAA national championship match in Surprise.
