DADE CITY, Fla. – Barry University women’s golfer Nicky Ferre is tied for fourth after the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Championships Sunday.

Ferre shot even par on Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club’s par-72, 6,175-yard course. She trails leader Marie Coors of Saint Leo by six strokes after Coors fired a 6-under 66. Lynn’s Jessica Bradley shot 2-under 70, and Nova Southeastern’s Liliana Cammisa 1-under 71. Ferre is tied with Lynn’s Louise Manalo and Rollins’ Kayla Sciupider.

The Buccaneers shot 307 as a team, and are in sixth place. Rollins leads the tournament by four strokes over Lynn after shooting 292 in the opening round. Saint Leo is third at 297. Nova is fourth at 301, and Florida Tech fifth at 303. Barry has a 10-stroke lead over seventh-place Florida Southern in the nine-team, 45-player field.

Barry’s Martina Bertuccioli is in a six-way tie for seventh at 1-over 73. Teammate Nancy Vergara is tied for 23rd after shooting 79. Maria Paola Fiorio and Francesca Perini both shot 83, and are tied for 33rd.

Ferre had three birdies and three bogeys Sunday. She birdied the par-4, 379-yard fifth, the par-5, 471-yard ninth and par-4, 363-yard 15th. Bertuccioli also had three birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey. She birdied the par-5, 473-yard second, the par-3, 105-yard 14th and the 15th. She was 1-under at the turn.

Vergara birdied the 372-yard, par-4 eighth and 180-yard, par-3 12th. Fiorio birdied the par-3, 151-yard seventh, and Perini birdied 12.

Play continues through Tuesday. The Bucs tee off at 9:05 a.m. Monday.
