WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry junior libero Brittany Jaco (Lakewood Ranch, Fla./State College Florida-Manatee/Braden River HS) was selected as the Sunshine State Conference defensive player of the week. Junior outside hitter Tashalyn Begon (Pembroke Pines/Archbishop McCarthy) was named to Palm Beach Atlantic's Hyatt Place Class All-Tournament Team.
Jaco had 81 digs over four matches, including a season-best 26 in the final match of the weekend Barry's four-set victory over Quincy (Ill.). She averaged 5.79 digs per set, and also had 10 setting assists as the Bucs went 3-1. She had 22 digs in a four-set loss to Bridgeport.
Begon banged down 45 kills, including 12 in the win over Quincy. She also had 13 in the loss to Bridgeport. Begon finished the week with 40 digs, including 11 against Barton and 13 against Kentucky State.
The Buccaneers will compete in the East Stroudsburg (Pa.) Tournament this weekend beginning with Friday's 4:30 p.m. match with Southern New Hampshire.
