Health & Sports Center
Barry’s on-campus Health & Sports Center, which opened in December of 1990, provides the home court for the volleyball team, as well as the men’s and women’s basketball squads. The Center includes a 1,500-seat gymnasium, a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning room, human performance lab, locker rooms, and meeting rooms.
The gymnasium in the Health & Sports Center features an all-wood floor, creating a quality surface for the fast-paced action of college volleyball and basketball. The Center also includes lighted advertising tables used by the official scorer, the statistical crew and the media. The athletic training room is located just outside the gymnasium and is operated by Barry’s certified staff and student trainers.
Offices for the School of Human Performance & Leisure Sciences, which includes the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Department of Sport & Exercise Sciences, are also located in the Health & Sports Center.
Since the 1991 volleyball season — Barry’s first in the Health & Sports Center — the Bucs have earned a 151-27 home record, including an 8-3 mark last fall.
After 15 years in the Health & Sports Center, the Barry volleyball team has posted four undefeated home records in 1994, 1995, 2001 and 2004. The Bucs were 16-0 in the HSC in 2004, including 6-0 in the post-season, winning their third Division II national title on their home turf.
The Bucs are an impressive 56-7 at home during the past five years, and recorded a 34-match winning streak at the Health & Sports Center from 1993 to 1996.
