MIAMI, Fla. – Barry University student and Fort Myers Police Officer David Conticelli was recently named the winner of the Lee McGehee Police Officer of the Year Award by the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) during their Annual Installation and Awards Banquet held in Boca Raton.
Officer Conticelli received the award for his relentless pursuit of safety in the Fort Myers community. He has been integral in solving major crimes in Fort Myers. Recently he was able to positively identify a suspect, which led to that suspect’s arrest for robbery and kidnapping, and completed surveillance which led to the closure of a prostitution ring.
Officer Conticelli went above and beyond the call of duty recently by supplying a family in need with clothing and toiletries. The act of generosity garnered media attention that led to an overwhelming amount of support for the family from the community.
Officer Conticelli is currently a PACE student at Barry Fort Myers campus and is nearing completion of his M.A. in administration.
The FPCA established the Lee McGehee Police Officer of the Year Awards in 1998 to recognize police officers who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and shown a genuine commitment to their profession, their agency, and the public they serve. The award is bestowed to recipients from small, medium and large agencies.
