More than 140 golfers and 40 university volunteers played “fore education” April 27 when they participated in the 13th annual Ryder-Benjamin Golf Tournament presented by the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida.
The tournament took place at the Miami Beach Golf Club.
The Miccosukee team, made up of Terry Willie, Doreen Osceola, Danny Rivero and Sid Poole, earned the best score at the tournament. Ryder and Miccosukee were the two title sponsors, contributing $30,000 each toward student scholarships. Many other area individuals and businesses also bought sponsorships.
Golfers were entertained with putting, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests. For the 13th year, the university golf team also got involved, allowing golfers to purchase mulligan shots that were then taken by a member of the golf team. In addition, those playing had the opportunity to enter several raffles, or tee-off for a hole-in-one at selected holes to win prizes that included a new car.
