For the Sake of Peace

For the Sake of Peace

The conference, hosted by Barry, featured a gathering of international women leaders who crossed religious and cultural traditions to develop plans for cooperation and understanding. Participants shared their hopes, concerns and resources in order to deepen understanding, broaden relationships and expand peacemaking.

The three-day conference featured women from Africa, Argentina, Bangladesh, Canada, Costa Rica, England, Germany, Haiti, India, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Malawi, Palestine, Romania and Tanzania. Speakers for the event included Gwen Ifill, moderator and managing editor of PBS’s “Washington Week” and senior correspondent for “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer;” Elana Rozenman, founder and director of TRUST, an Israeli non-profit organization that works toward building tolerance and understanding in the Middle East; and Tayyibah Taylor, founding editor-in-chief and publisher of Azizah Magazine, a publication that provides a vehicle for the voice of Muslim women.

Barry President Sister Linda Bevilacqua, OP, PhD, and Sister Donna Markham, OP, PhD, prioress of the Adrian Dominican Congregation, gave the opening remarks at the conference.
