The accreditation program, which awarded accreditation to Barry University's Anesthesiology Program through 2010, is the nation’s sole accrediting agency for institutions and programs of nurse anesthesia at the post-master's certificate, master’s, and doctoral degree levels.

Created in 1952 with the endorsement of the American Hospital Association (AHA), the Council has continuously been recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The Council’s mission is to grant public recognition to nurse anesthesia programs and institutions that meet nationally established standards of academic quality and assist programs and institutions in improving educational quality.
