Buccaneers Win Their First Men’s Division Mayor’s Cup

Barry University claimed the men’s division of the 2006-07 Sunshine State Conference Mayor’s Cup all-sports competition. The award is sponsored by the mayors of the nine communities in which SSC member institutions are located.

While the Buccaneers have won the women’s division five times, including last year, this is Barry’s first victory in the men’s division. Barry finished no lower than third in any of the men’s sports that the university sponsors. The Buccaneers tied for first in men’s basketball, placed second in soccer and finished third in baseball, tennis and golf. Barry does not field a cross country team.

Barry accumulated 35.5 points to lead the men’s competition. Florida Southern and Rollins tied for second place with 30.5 points

Ryan Saunders (3), a first-team all-conference selection, displays the moves that helped him lead the Bucs to the Sunshine State Conference men's basketball title and the 2006-07 Mayor's Cup.
