Trend Setter

John A. Walker, Barry University’s general counsel and vice president for Human Resources, was named one of Florida’s 2008 Legal Elite by Florida Trend Magazine. Only 2 percent of lawyers in the state were named to this year’s list.

Florida Trend’s Legal Elite list was selected from the approximately 61,500 Florida Bar members who practice in the state, and names those Florida lawyers who have earned the trust and confidence of those who know their work the best – other attorneys. Florida Bar attorneys surveyed were asked to name lawyers whom they hold in the highest regard – lawyers with whom they have worked or would recommend to others.

“It is great to be recognized by my peers as one of Florida’s legal elite,” said Walker. “My fundamental goal in practicing law is to represent every client with professionalism, distinction and passion, and I believe my colleagues recognize these characteristics in my practice.”

Walker represents the University and provides legal representation and counsel to all academic and administration units of the University regarding compliance with a broad array of federal, state and local laws and regulations. He is also responsible for the Human Resources Department, providing general leadership and management of all departmental activities, including benefits, employment and labor relations.
