Zarzuela the night away

Barry University celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month in October with a Zarzuela Extravaganza. Zarzuela is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that alternates between narrative and musical scenes. It includes opera, popular song and dance. The name “Zarzuela” derives from a royal hunting lodge, the Palacio de la Zarzuela near Madrid, where this type of entertainment was first presented to the Spanish court. The production involved 30 students and faculty members who performed solos and choral numbers throughout the week-long celebration.
