History of the BIO 300 Courses

  • Some of the BIO 300 courses were developed over twenty years ago
  • In 2001, Mr. Ellis established a standard lecture/lab schedule and general curriculum for a three-credit lab science course…all the BIO 300 syllabi have been adapted to this basic plan
  • From 2003-2005, Mr. Ellis was supported by a research grant from the National Science Foundation (National Science Foundation Curriculum Development and Planning Grant proposal 0310574) that focused on the design and assessment of lab-based science courses for non-majors
  • Mr. Ellis has shown that exposure to hands-on, science-based inquiry improves not only the student’s scientific understanding, but also greatly improves the students’ self-efficacy and personal confidence
