StudentProgram Overview

A major requires 50 semester hours in biology including:

  • BIO 104 Biological Foundations
  • BIO 235 Intro to Biotechnology Workshop
  • BIO 253 Introductory Microbiology
  • BIO 256 Tissue Culture Techniques
  • BIO 330 Cell Biology
  • BIO 341 Genetics
  • BIO 401 Biostatistics
  • BIO 454 Virology
  • BIO 455 Immunology
  • BIO 471 Biotechnology Internship
  • BIO 475 Seminar

Additional biology credits to be taken from upper level biology courses. Students must also fulfill the following biology, chemistry, physics, and math requirements:

  • Orientation (first semester students and transfers or students new to college)
  • Biomedical Terminology (all allied health 3+1 programs and first-year students with verbal SAT's below 480
  • Biomedical Topics (freshmen)

These Biology 300 courses listed above do not count toward the major:

  • General Chemistry & Qualitative Analysis
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Quantitative Analysis
  • Biochemistry
  • General College Physics I and II
  • Precalculus Mathematics I and II
