Student / Alumni Experiences

Micaelle Jean
BSW, Class of 2003

I moved to the U.S. twelve years ago from Haiti. I came to Barry straight out of high school and was originally majoring in sociology. I changed my major to social work in my sophomore year because I've always felt that a helping profession was my calling.

Barry's curriculum is quite exceptional and diversified. The social work curriculum, in particular, truly mirrors and focuses on the diversity of South Florida 's population. My experience as a resident student also made me much more culturally aware.

I consider myself truly blessed to have encountered such caring and wonderful professors at Barry. Having completed my BSW, I am now enrolled in the MSW program. After graduation, I plan to go into school social work, but I will keep my options open.
