
Barry University School of Social Work Field Education curriculum is designed to ensure the integration between the classroom learning experience and direct practice. Field Education courses are a vital part of the BSW curriculum, providing the opportunity to develop generalist practice skills in a supervised setting.
BSW Program
Students complete one internship in their senior year in a diverse community-based agency
- The placement requires the completion of 448 internship hours. This course emphasizes the development of generalist practice skills in working with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations.
- The internship is enhanced by attending Professional Development Seminars each semester offered by the Field Education Department
Own Agency Placements (OAP)
Internship may be completed within a human service agency in which a student is currently employed. Certain criteria must be met prior to approval by the Field Education Department.
International Students will need to apply for university immigration authorization at least two to three weeks prior to starting their internship and meet with an international student advisor at the Barry University International and Multicultural Programs. The student is to request a letter for submission to the International and Multicultural Programs from the School of Social Work documenting internship requirements.
Support for Students is provided by:
- The experienced staff of our Field Education Department.
- A Field Educator who will supervise the development of clinical skills in the agency.
- A designated Field Advisor who will serve as a school liaison to ensure that academic and field education learning needs are met.
