Volunteer Experience

Volunteer ExperiencesTo give you experience working with vulnerable populations and to help you integrate what you are learning in the classroom with the real world, you are required to complete a volunteer experience during your junior year.

This volunteer experience requires a minimum of 75 hours (3 hours per week x 25 weeks). You will spread your work over the course of the fall and spring semesters. You experience will  include work in a social service agency or any work done on behalf of the vulnerable populations of South Florida.

Volunteer experience is in keeping with the mission of  Catholic universities, particularly one grounded in the Dominican Tradition. In fact, your education will be enhanced by the Catholic approach which sees your chosen career as a vocation, not just a job.

You will be allowed to secure your own volunteer experience site. The School also maintains a list of sites that you can access for potential volunteer experiences. All volunteer sites must be approved by the BSW Program Director prior to the start of the experience.
