Dr. Tomislav Mandakovic named Top 100 Latinos Miami

Andreas School of Business Dean, Dr. Tomislav Mandakovic, was listed among the Top 100 Latinos 2011-2012 for their success and influence in Miami.

Mandakovic was in the presence of community figures such as journalist Helen Aguirre Ferré, singer Juan Esteban Aristízabal Vásquez also known as “Juanes,” and Miami-Dade County mayor Carlos A. Giménez.

Other educators, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs from Miami’s thriving Hispanic community also made the list for the Top 100 Latinos showcasing the positive aspects of immigration from Latin-America into large urban communities. These individuals are prime examples that with effort, creativity, and entrepreneurship Hispanics contribute to the economic, social and cultural development of the United States.

A professor from Chile who came to the U.S. in 1983, Mandakovic taught Decision Sciences and Information Systems and served as the associate dean of the Chapman Graduate Business School at Florida International University. He earned his doctorate in Operations Research and Systems Management Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

In addition to his work at FIU, Mandakovic has been dean of the College of Business Administration at the Universidad Diego Portales, Chile and a visiting professor and director of the MBA program at the Universidad de Chile, Department of Industrial Engineering; one of the most prestigious universities in Chile. He has also participated as faculty at several Latin American, European and Asian universities.

The Association Fusionarte, Panamerican Foundation y Televisa Publishing began the Top 100 Latinos Miami with the prime objective to highlight influential Hispanics from Latin America and Spain in the United States. These 100 people and their success stories will be printed in a book and showcased in an exposition at Miami International Airport.

The Top 100 Latinos/Hispanos Miami comes from a success of 100 Latinos Madrid that has five editions and was created by the Association Fusionarte; dedicated to promote the integration of immigrants through arts and culture.
