Campus Ministry's Dominican Republic Trip

You are Invited to be a Part of a Very Special Place!

At the close of this school year, several students from Barry University will travel to a very special place--the Centro Fe y Alegria Espiritu Santo in the Dominican Republic, where they will teach students English. In addition to helping with English-language instruction, each Barry student will travel with their suitcases filled with school supplies, educational toys and countless bottles of children's vitamins for the students.

Founded more than 10 years ago by two Dominican sisters, the school's initial 127 students, all first-graders, took their lessons under a tree. Centro Fe y Alegria Espiritu Santo now enrolls over 1200 students in a 15-classroom facility, with instruction ranging from an early childhood program through eighth grade. Their health program runs a pharmacy, a medical lab and a clinic; and each school day, 600 undernourished children receive breakfast and vitamins.

As you know, education is essential, and we would like to give the students of this beautiful island an opportunity to learn and grasp the English language. Our goal is to empower these students; there is no option for high school education in this community, which serves Haitian and Dominican families with limited economic resources. With your assistance, we can help students at Centro Fe y Alegria Espiritu Santo prepare for a better future, with more economic promise. We also hope to enrich students' lives--both Centro Fe y Alegria Espiritu Santo and Barry University students--with love and long-lasting, positive memories.

2. Donate school supplies. Supplies needed include: Glue, Glue Sticks, Children's scissors, Stickers, Children's Story Books in Spanish, Any Color of Construction Paper, Pens, Crayons, Color Pencils, Pencil Sharpeners, and Children's Vitamins. Please bring your donation of school supplies to the Office of Campus Ministry, Cor Jesu Chapel, Barry University. (Any school supplies are welcome.)
