Prayer
An integral part of daily life, prayer for the Order of Preachers includes the Eucharist
and the Liturgy of the Hours. It also includes personal prayer, a regularly scheduled time to pray, study the Gospel, read literature, write down thoughts, or meditate. (Dominican Friars of the Southern Province website)
Prayer and Action. In any of its forms, prayer is
a regular and, possibly, ritualized practice that enables the
community and the individual to better know and serve God. Prayer opens
us more fully to the indwelling of the Spirit, enabling us to better
follow God's designs.
In the following quote from the Adrian Dominican Vision Statement
, you can see the close connection made between contemplative prayer and the call to help one's neighbor:
Stirred by the Wisdom of God and rooted in our contemplative
prayer, communal study and life in community, we challenge heresies
of local and global domination, exploitation, and greed, that
privilege some, dehumanize others, and ravage Earth.
Opportunities for Prayer at Barry . You will have a number of opportunities at the
University to enrich your prayer life. The Eucharist is celebrated daily.
The Rosary is prayed weekly before the Friday Mass. You can join a faith sharing
group, interfaith activites, and/or participate in centering prayer. Prayer
at Barry has also taken the form of dance and song.
