Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Counseling

Spiritual Direction and Pastoral Counseling

Cor Jesu ChapelSpiritual Direction

Spiritual direction, mentoring, companioning has been part of the Christian tradition for centuries. In the first century, people sought Jesus out because they recognized his wisdom and respected his walk with God. In religious communities today, a novice might have another brother or sister as his/her spiritual director. These kinds of prayer relationships are also open to you.

Spiritual Direction is the art of Christian listening carried out in the context of a one-to-one trusting relationship. A spiritual director is a competent guide who "companions" another person, listening to that person's life story with an ear for the movement of the Holy, of the Divine.

Spiritual direction is designed for people who are yearning for God, who are trying to gain a sense of discernment and understand meaning in their life. Spiritual direction can help you understand where you are going and how to live in your life more fully.

Pastoral Counseling

Pastoral Counseling is short-term counseling around a particular issue in one's life in light of one's faith.
