Holy Orders
"Those of the faithful who are consecrated by Holy Orders are appointed to feed the Church in Christ's name with the word and grace of God."
--Lumen gentium, no. 1
Holy Orders consists of three officially designated orders of ministry in the Catholic church: bishop, priest, and deacon. Persons ordained into the sacramental ministries act as sacraments in the
Church and the world, together with all members of the Christian community. Specifically, ordained persons lead the community worship, give witness to God's presence, and call the community to live out its mission. These persons, like Jesus, serve as spiritual guides to the Kingdom of God .
