Faculty from Hunan University in China and Dr. Joan Lutton (second row, second from left), head mistress of The Cushman School in Miami, met with Sister Linda Bevilacqua and Barry administrators on Friday, April 16, and toured Barry's campus.

On Friday, April 16, faculty members from Hunan University in China visited Barry’s Miami Shores campus and met with President Sister Linda Bevilacqua and several Barry administrators to learn more about Barry and tour its campus.

Han Hong, dean of Central Regular Education at Hunan University, Wang Xiangling, professor of Translations Studies in Hunan’s School of Foreign Language, and He Chunxiang, supervisor of the post graduate Foreign Language School at Hunan University and Director of International Affairs Office for Hunan University’s middle school, were invited to tour Barry’s Adrian Dominican School of Education and the Andreas School of Business as part of Barry’s involvement with the Community Learning Partnership (CLP) of Greater Miami Shores.

Faculty from Hunan University are visiting South Florida to take part in The Cushman’s School Chinese exchange program for the second time in three years. The Cushman School, located in Miami, is a CLP partner and the only elementary school in the nation to offer a Chinese exchange program. This year, the private school is hosting a group of fourth, fifth and sixth grade Chinese students, who are staying with 16 Cushman students and their families. Dr. Joan Lutton, head of school, joined Hunan faculty during their visit to Barry, further extending The Cushman School's CLP partnernship with Barry by bringing the two universities together.

Hunan University is located in Changsha, Hunan province, and is one of the oldest and most prestigious national universities in the People's Republic of China. The university, affiliated with China’s Ministry of Education, is a comprehensive university with 30 colleges, a faculty of 1,900 and a student body of 30,000, including nearly 10,000 graduate students.

The Community Learning Partnership of Greater Miami Shores was formed in 2008 by leaders of local businesses, organizations and educational institutions, both public and private, to serve as a catalyst for community engagement. As a reflection of its mission and its core commitment to an “inclusive community,” Barry University joined the partnership in 2008 in an effort to cultivate relationships with the local community.
