Pre-Commencement Activities

Account balance must be under $1000.00 to pick up caps and gowns.

Barry University conforms to the Intercollegiate Code for academic dress which regulates what is worn with the academic gown, hood, and cap for the commencement ceremony. Students may only wear honor cords given by Barry Academic Honors societies. No sorority/fraternity scarves may be worn at the ceremony.

Caps and gowns are free to graduates and may be picked up at the Landon Student Union Bookstore

May 1 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
May 2 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m

Regalia will not be available after 4:00 PM on Friday, May 2, 2008.

* ACE students and Education students who take classes at off campus sites will receive their caps and gowns from their site directors.

Education students on the main campus who are student teaching, will receive their caps and gowns at their last seminar, May 2, 2008.

Baccalaureate Mass Cor Jesu Chapel, Barry University Main Campus
Friday, May 2, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

All graduates are invited and encouraged to attend the Baccalaureate Liturgy. The Baccalaureate liturgy is a celebration of graduation. Graduates should wear academic robes (no hoods or caps). Guests of the graduates are welcome.

Rose and Candle Ceremony
Broad Center , Barry University Main Campus
Friday, May 2, 2008 at 6:30 p.m.

All graduates are invited and encouraged to attend the Rose and Candle Ceremony. The Rose and Candle Ceremony is a traditional ceremony at Barry which attempts to symbolize the bonds of friendship and sending forth of graduates. Graduates exchange a candle, the symbol of wisdom and knowledge, with a Barry underclassman of their choice. In return, graduates receive a rose as a symbol of love and friendship. Graduates should wear academic robes (no hoods or caps). Those serving as roses should wear business dress attire. Guests of the graduates are welcome.

All participants should meet in Thompson Hall Lobby at 6:00 p.m.

Senior Salute 2008

The Campus Activities Board and Alumni Relations would like to invite all Graduates, Family & Friends, Faculty and Staff to the annual Senior Salute Celebration. Come honor the accomplishments of the Class of 2008 and party the night away with heavy hors’oeuvres, beverages, music and a video slide show of the Graduates and their friends during their Barry collegiate experience.

When: May 2, 2008 (immediately following the Rose and Candle Ceremony)
Time: 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.
Place:
Health and Sports Center (next to Landon Student Union)

Admission: FREE TO ALL

Commencement (May 4, 2008)

Over 1,000 students will receive diplomas during graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremonies on Sunday, May 4, 2008. Two ceremonies will be held at the James L. Knight Convention Center (400 S.E. Second Avenue, Miami, Florida). All graduating students from all of the Barry University campuses are invited to participate.

There will be two ceremonies, one at 10:00 AM and one at 2:00 PM.

10:00 AM Ceremony: Schools of Education, Graduate Medical Sciences, Natural and Health Sciences, and Nursing.

2:00 PM Ceremony: Schools of Adult and Continuing Education, Arts and Sciences, Business, Human Performance and Leisure Sciences and Social Work.
