Purpose Statement
The purpose of the Volunteer & Community Service Center is to further Barry University’s mission of service to the community by intentionally promoting and supporting a service-oriented campus culture. It serves students, faculty, and staff wanting to know more about social issues to be connected to opportunities for service and civic engagement.
Major Project & Events Highlight
Alternative Spring Break
An annual event offering opportunity for groups of students working with faculty/staff learning partners to spend an enriching week working with underprivileged communities in the United States and abroad.
- Previous trips tackled the issues of poverty, hunger, substance abuse, migrant workers, sexual assault, education in New York, South Carolina, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
- Leadership opportunities for dedicated, enthusiastic individuals to coordinate program development are available.

Volunteer Fair
A great opportunity for students to talk with representatives from numerous agencies to help familiarize them with the array of available community service opportunities. MLK Challenge Day of Service
A day utilized to honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to unite people of various backgrounds to build a stronger community. During this event, students, faculty, and staff are dispersed throughout the North Miami Community to provide service. Camillus House Soup Kitchen
Weekly trips to a soup kitchen to serve food to those in need of a fresh meal prepared with love. Student Involvement

The center is always looking for dedicated student to serve in leadership roles for service and advocacy events.
Student Advisory Board
Members seek to support existing service opportunities helping to integrate academic knowledge, social and civic responsibility, spiritually, and leadership development consistent with all the other tenants of the university mission.
Direct Service
Student, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to give back to the community by participating in various community service initiatives throughout the school year.

Awards & Recognition
Students and groups who have exemplified leadership by demonstrating outstanding service will be considered for awards which will be presented annually at the Student Service Awards Banquet. |
