Doctorate student named Broward College Foundation Endowed Teaching Chair

The 2013 Broward College Foundation Endowed Teaching Chair was awarded to an Adrian Dominican School of Education’s Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration student, Maria E. Bernal-Dobek. Bernal-Dobek is a Broward College Reading professor and the recipient of the Margaret and Cato Roach Endowed Teaching Chair.

This notable award includes a $7,500 program stipend and a $2,500 professional development stipend. Bernal-Dobek went through a rigorous selection process that required her to submit a portfolio, be interviewed, and teach a sample lesson for the selection committee.

Bernal-Dobek has served as coordinator for the Center for American Education in Lima, Peru through an agreement with Broward College which was the college’s first international service-learning program.

Bernal-Dobek was also the Outstanding Doctoral Student in the Higher Education Administration program for the 2012-2013 year.

 “Maria has served as our Graduate Assistant with a continuous thirst to expand her knowledge base, while working with faculty on research projects,” said Dr. Carmen McCrink, director of the Ph.D. Higher Education Administration program.
