Jill Farrell appointed Interim Dean of Adrian Dominican School of Education

Barry University Professor of Education Jill Farrell, EdD, has been appointed Interim Dean of the Adrian Dominican School of Education beginning July 1, 2015.

Christopher Starratt, Barry’s Interim Provost and Vice President for Mission and Institutional Effectiveness, made the announcement on May 2, thanking Farrell for her willingness to continue to serve Barry University.

A veteran member of the Barry faculty, Farrell joined Barry University in 2001 as an assistant professor and Director of the Graduate Elementary Education programs.

In her 14 years at Barry, Farrell has held many roles including: Director of the MS Elementary Education program, Director of the MS, EdS, and PhD Curriculum and Instruction programs, Chair for the Curriculum and Instruction Department which included the undergraduate education program, MS, EdS, and PhD Curriculum and Instruction programs, and Montessori Education graduate programs.

In 2010, Farrell was appointed Associate Dean to oversee teacher education and international programs.

Farrell was integral in founding ADSOE’s first international MS in Elementary Education cohort in Nassau, Bahamas in 2009. Under her leadership, the School of Education expanded its program offerings to Freeport, Bahamas and now offers five programs in The Bahamas: MS in Organizational Learning and Leadership, MS in Exceptional Student Education, MS in Curriculum and Instruction, MS in School Counseling, and EdD in Organizational Learning and Leadership with specializations in Human Resource Development and Educational Leadership.

Prior to joining the Barry faculty, Farrell served as a K-8 principal and taught both elementary and middle school science, social studies, mathematics, language arts and art. She earned her doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction/Instructional Leadership at Florida International University and holds an MS in Elementary Education and a BFA.
