Celebrating our Alumni in The Bahamas

You do not have to go far to find a Barry University alumni in The Bahamas. This October, Barry University’s Alumni Association held an event at Sheraton Nassau Beach and Resort so alumni living in The Bahamas. Alumni were able to network with one another, learn about the latest Barry news and happenings, and meet their former deans and professors.

The alumni attending represented a variety of programs and degrees, from the undergraduate biology program to the exceptional student education doctorate program. Distinguished alumni included the first Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction Bahamas’ cohort (MS, ‘12), Michelle Major (BS, ‘97; MS, ‘99; SSP, ’01; PhD, ‘05), Brendan Francis, MD (BS, ’92), and Dwight Strachan (BS ‘96). The energy in the room continued to escalate as alumni Dr. Shaquille O’Neal (EdD, ‘12) joined his fellow alumni.

Joining the alumni was Mr. Alfred Sears, former Minister of Education and Attorney General and current Chairman of the Board at the College of The Bahamas. Mr. Sears gave remarks about the importance of education, as it is a means to continue building more Bahamian leaders. Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations, Elizabeth Reed encouraged all Alumni to seek leadership positions in the new Alumni Chapter in The Bahamas. The Alumni Association hopes to continue to build mutually beneficial relations with its Bahamian alumni.
