New Appointment for ADSOE's Clinical Practice Division

M. Sylvia Fernandez, PhD., has been appointed associate dean for the Adrian Dominican School of Education's Clinical Practice Division. She will provide oversight to the CACREP-accredited Counseling Programs offered at the main campus and in Orlando, the NASP-approved School Psychology program offered at the main campus, and responsibility for the development and implementation of a multidisciplinary comprehensive diagnostic educational clinic in the School of Education.

The clinic will be an integrated, multidisciplinary facility designed to meet the academic & mental health needs of underserved children & their families from the local community. Dr. Fernandez stated, “The clinic will offer a full range of educational diagnostics, interventions & mental health support services that address a diverse spectrum of individual needs, while promoting individual & family wellness from a holistic perspective. The clinic will serve as a faculty-supervised clinical training site for ADSOE students and will offer professional development workshops and trainings as an Approved-Continuing Education provider for multiple human service professions.”

The clinic currently offers counseling services by supervised MS, EdS, and PhD Counseling students and pyschoeducational evaluations by supervised MS and SSP School Psychology students. With the leadership of Dr. Fernandez, clinical training opportunities for students will be expanded to further serve the local community. Educational interventions, such as remediation & academic support to K-12 clients identified with learning disabilities, will be provided by MS Exceptional Student Education and EdS Reading students. Family literacy initiatives will be provided by MS and EdS Reading students. Early Childhood learning & support services will be provided by MS and PhD Curriculum & Instruction students.
