Adrian Dominican School of Education Student and Professional Organizations

Barry University's School of Education sponsors and is involved in several student organizations and national professional organizations that are designed to assist you in your professional development.

Honor Societies

Chi Sigma Iota - Beta Upsilon Chapter

Chi Sigma Iota is the international honor society in counseling for students, professional counselors, and counselor educators whose mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in that profession. There are a total of 284 chapters internationally. Barry's chapter, Chi Sigma Iota - Beta Upsilon, has received multiple awards since 1999 for its Outstanding Newsletter and as an Outstanding Chapter.

Kappa Delta Pi - International Honor Society in Education

Phi Delta Kappa is an international association for professional educators. The organization’s mission is to promote quality education as essential to the development and maintenance of a democratic way of life by providing innovative programs, relevant research, visionary leadership, and dedicated service. The Barry University Chapter of PDK was installed in 2002.

Student Organizations

American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) Student Chapter

Students in Barry's graduate Organizational Learning and Leadership program  will find membership in this chapter to be a great assist in their professional development. The chapter is one of only two Student ASTD Chapters in the U.S. As noted on the ASTD website, "ASTD chapters provide local networking and professional development opportunities for training, HRD, and performance improvement professionals across the United States." The Education Association of Barry (EAB)

The purpose of the EAB organization is to establish an association that promotes unity among the pre-service education students and Barry University. The Association shall encourage the pre-service education students to grow professionally and to continue to learn new ideas that will enhance them as future educators.

The Barry University Counseling Association (BUCA)

BUCA, a student-run organization, provides students and alumni the opportunity to network at social events and, to gain information and experience in workshops. BUCA serves as an information resource for students and alumni, providing members with academic and professional information. All currently enrolled students or alumni from the Barry University Counseling Program are invited to join and participate in this organization.
