Barry University’s Ph.D. Counseling Program Granted CACREP Accreditation
Jul 15, 2009
Barry University’s Ph.D. in Counseling Program at both the Main Campus and Orlando was granted national accreditation in July 2009 from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). This distinction represents initial accreditation for both locations.
Accreditation is a process whereby an educational institution (and/or a program within an educational institution) is assessed for educational quality based on nationally developed standards. Accreditation also serves as a statement to the public that an institution and/or its programs are committed to educational quality.
CACREP is the premiere national accreditation for Counseling Programs and signifies that the accredited program meets the highest training standards of the counseling profession. This prestigious distinction is most advantageous to Barry University’s Ph.D. Counseling students who are seeking professional employment and appointments in today's competitive job market.
“This is evidence of the high quality of our program and the commitment of our faculty,” said Chair of the Counseling Department and Professor Dr. Sylvia Fernandez. “The Ph.D. in Counseling program at Barry University will now be the third Ph.D. granting CACREP-accredited program in the state of Florida and the only CACREP-accredited Ph.D. program in South Florida. A distinction about our Ph.D. in Counseling program is its specialization in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling/Therapy.” The Ph.D. in Counseling Program at Barry University has been accredited by CACREP through June 30, 2011.
