The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of Barry University. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of Barry University and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

At Barry University, you will experience a small community atmosphere where you can always rely on our administrators and faculty for advice, encouragement and personal attention. We take great pride in giving individual attention from the very beginning. You can start building a personal relationship with one of our admissions counselors who will help answer any questions, and guide you through the entire admissions and enrollment process.

Continuing Education (CE) offers a variety of courses and non-credit programs designed to respond to the diverse educational interests and lifelong learning needs of individuals of all ages. We offer certificate, credential exam preparation, and licensure programs for professional and personal enrichment.

High school students: Get a jump-start on your college education with dual enrollment courses from Barry University! You can earn high school and college credit at the same time, right at your own school.

We are committed to providing programs and services that are guided by Barry University's rich educational mission and intended to enhance your Barry experience. Through partnerships with others in the university community, we aim to create experiences that will help transform you into leaders for a just and humane world.

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Your application materials and choice of major qualify you to apply to be one of Barry’s CRAFT Scholars.

Due to the national delay in 2024-25 FAFSAs, the CRAFT Application Deadline has been extended to March 15, 2024. Decisions are tentatively expected to be announced by April 15, 2024.

This program, Cultivating Resilience Through Agriculture and Food Training (CRAFT) seeks to provide full scholarships and academic support for motivated students in majors related to the science of food, nutrition, and social and personal interactions, including applications of biology, chemistry, sociology, criminology, and data analysis to promote planetary and community health.

As a CRAFT Scholar, you will visit working research sites and facilities dedicated to food safety, nutrition and climate change, and learn how these areas impact community sustainability, racial equality, and disease prevention. You’ll learn, experience and gain skills that prepare you to join a workforce tackling these important local and global issues.

Ready to break through and Cultivate Resilience through Agriculture and Food Training?

New applicants to CRAFT Scholars must:

  • Be a US citizen, national, or legal permanent resident
  • Have a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) 
  • Enter Barry University in Fall 2024 as a first-time full-time degree-track student in one of the eligible majors: Biology (including Marine Biology), Chemistry (including Biochemistry specialization), Computer Science (with Data Analytics Specialization only), Criminology, Mathematics (with Data Analytics Specialization only), or Sociology
  • Demonstrate unmet financial need, determined by Barry's Financial Aid Office and the FAFSA
  • Submit a letter from a high school teacher or community leader (described further on below)
  • Submit a video or essay (described further below)

Here’s how to apply:

  • All CRAFT Scholars must be fully-admitted Barry students. When you click “submit your CRAFT application”, you will be taken through the steps to apply to Barry, including creating a myBarry account. Be sure to pick one of the CRAFT-eligible majors. Once you are admitted, and have met the eligibility criteria, you’ll see an invitation to submit the CRAFT Scholars application in your myBarry to-do list. If you have any trouble throughout the application process, email , and we can connect you to an admissions counselor that can help.
  • Ensure you have submitted everything needed to complete your application to Barry, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which will demonstrate that you have the financial need to be considered for this program. For any questions regarding FAFSA, please contact .
  • Prepare a brief essay or video about who you are and your future goals. (see below)
  • Provide contact info for one of your high school teachers, a counselor or community leader so they can submit a recommendation letter.
  • The application deadline is March 15, 2024, 11:59 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Application Essay/Video

We hope to welcome you soon into our exciting CRAFT Scholars program. The short essay/ video is your opportunity to tell us about yourself and how you see yourself as an active participant in this vital program.

Details about what to write are in the application form.

Essay: 750-word count maximum. 12-point font. Be sure to include your full name at the top of the essay. (Note: Only MS Word and PDF files are accepted)

Video: 5-minute maximum. Provide a link from YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, etc. (Make sure the video is set to be shared with anyone who has the link.)

Letter of Recommendation

Once you provide the contact information of a teacher, counselor, or community leader on the application, we will contact them with instructions on how to upload the letter. Please alert them that you will be providing us with their information.

*Financial support will cover the gap (up to $15,000) between Barry’s cost of attendance, and other aid you receive depending on demonstrated need, (shown on the FAFSA) and does not replace your federal (e.g., Pell grant), state, or Barry aid.
