About the Presentation

Catholic theology and ethics of family centers on the nuclear family with a heterosexual married couple, children, and complementary roles of the sexes, a definition which does not apply to many families in today’s world. Moreover, Catholics less frequently look to the Church for guidance on issues of sex, gender, and family. In light of these realities, Cahill will explore how families today find meaning and guidance from the Catholic faith, how the gospel can be preached to them, and what these families bring to the Church.

Lisa Sowle Cahill, PhD, is the J. Donald Monan Professor of Theology at Boston College. She is the past president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and the Society of Christian Ethics.
