Solar Eclipse Safety and Viewing Party

Solar Eclipse Safety and Viewing Party

On August 21, 2017, we will experience a solar eclipse that will stretch from Oregon to South Carolina. On Monday afternoon around 3 pm, the moon is going to pass directly between us and the sun – an awesome an rare event. While we expect that most will not want to miss this event, we highly encourage everyone to be safe at all time. Please do NOT look directly at the sun without the proper eye protection. Looking directly at the sun during a solar eclipse can cause severe damage to the eyes. Please use extreme caution if you have to be driving during this event.

The safest way to experience the solar eclipse is online at https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/eclipse-live-stream. For those that would like to come together for this event, we will be hosting a viewing party in Bucky’s Cove.

The solar eclipse, which will last for several hours, can cause unusual changes to our campus surroundings. The university schedule has not changed but all outdoor activities between the hours of 1:00 and 4:30 pm will be moved indoors.
