The School of Social Work invites the Barry community to a presentation about the Settlement House Movement.
Date: Friday, Aug. 28, 2015
Time: 1 – 4:30 p.m.
Location: Gato Gallery, Thompson Hall
Social work lore is filled with references and stories of how the Settlement House Movement contributed to the creation of the profession. Jane Addams and Hull House are now enshrined as symbols of the profession’s commitment to individuals and families who face challenges associated with living in low-income communities. Unfortunately, many social workers today know little about the history of settlement houses, their work, administration and management. This workshop will provide an opportunity to community-based non-profit managers and administrators to learn, brush up, revisit, or relearn about the social work skills necessary to create and operate a community-based non-profit organization (CBO) that provide social services at the neighborhood or community-level.
