A Message from the Public Safety Department

A Message from the Public Safety Department

Welcome back! The Department of Public Safety would like to remind all Barry community members that they must have a Barry University decal on their vehicles if they park in any Barry University parking lot. Decals are available in the Landon Student Union room 100. Public Safety will start issuing citations next week on any vehicles that are not properly registered and that are not parked in the designated areas. If you have any questions regarding parking locations you can pick up a map in Landon Student Union room 100.

Public Safety would like the Barry community to remember that a motorcyclist must abide by the same traffic rules and regulations as other motorists. Please do not drive on walkways, or sidewalks and always park in a proper parking space.

The Department of Public Safety at Barry University is committed to reducing bicycle theft and vandalism. We encourage bicycle owners to properly lock their bikes at the bike racks located in designated areas around campus.

We would also like to remind you to avoid leaving valuables in your vehicle, make sure that you lock your doors, take your GPS system, and wipe off the area where your GPS system is located. Do not leave valuables in plain sight of your vehicle. Public Safety and the Miami Shores Police Department are out patrolling all areas of the Barry Campus.

Public Safety would like all Barry community members to remember when crossing at the flashing light pedestrian cross walk on North Miami Ave to stop and use the pedestrian button. Failure to do so could result in a citation issued by Miami Shores Police Department.

Our Crime Prevention Coordinator will be engraving items on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012 in Thompson Hall room 230 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The purpose for engraving items is to discourage theft. Items that can be engraved include: laptops, calculators and other personal items of choice. Crime Prevention tips will also be taking place at the Weber Hall Game Room on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. Please stop by either location as awareness materials will be provided at both locations.

Barry University reminds its students, faculty, staff, and visitors that continued caution and vigilance are necessary components of your own personal safety and the safety of all in the Barry community. We encourage all to report crimes and/or suspicious behavior to Public Safety by calling 305-899-3333 or by visiting www.barry.edu/publicsafety/silentwitness.htm, a confidential way of providing information via Barry's website.

Keep up-to-date on campus safety by checking out our periodic updates on BUCWIS, Student Web, and Barry News Bulletin. For more information about Barry's Public Safety Department, visit http://bucwis.barry.edu/publicSafety/.
