Junior biology major Daphne Petit-Homme is the inaugural recipient of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) Founding Member Scholarship. The scholarship is in honor of BMS students Joseph Dubery, Terrell Martin, Elizabeth Ottey, SchMiyah Smith, and Luther St. James, who founded MAPS in fall 2011; all graduated in spring 2012 and are now enrolled in medical or dental school. Petit-Homme has the distinction of being the first recipient of this honor which includes a $50 Barry Bookstore certificate. As co-president of MAPS, this semester she participated in the Breast Health Symposium, Miami-Dade Heart Walk, Breast Health Initiative, Little Haiti Health Fair and the Empower U AIDS conference. Petit-Homme is a 2010 Gates Millenium Scholar, vice president of the Haitian Intercultural Association, and a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National, Delta Epsilon Iota, and Sigma Eta Biological Honor Societies.
