TOWSON, Md. -- Barry University senior women's tennis player Julie Stas was named to the Capital One/College Sports Information Directors of America First-Team Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team.

Stas, a Brussels, Belgium native, had a 3.62 grade point average in international studies. She posted a 4.0 GPA in the spring semester.

Stas went 15-3 in singles this season, finishing the year with a No. 48 national ranking. She was 3-1 against ranked players, and upset the No. 17-ranked player in the country, Olga Kalodzitsa, in the NCAA Division II semifinals in Louisville.

As a doubles player, Stas was 23-3 in 2012. A member of the 2011 NCAA National Championship team, Stas finished her three-year career at Barry with 58 doubles victories, which ranks ninth in school history. Her .795 career doubles winning percentage ranks fourth in school history.

Sophomore Akemi Maehama was chosen as a Third-Team Academic All-American. Maehama has a 3.84 GPA in physical education.

Maehama, a Miami native, went 11-0 this season in singles. She is 19-0 in her college career. As a doubles player, Maehama was 4-0 this year. She is 8-0 as a doubles player in her career.
