LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University junior Olivia Matuszak (Hamburg, Germany) took the runner-up trophy at the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Championships Sunday in the fall season's opening event.
Matuszak, a No. 9 seed, lost in the championship, 6-4, 6-0, to Florida Tech's Kristina Huba, a No. 5 seed.
Matuszak went 5-1 in the tournament. She is coming off a 13-3 sophomore spring season in which she climbed to as high as No. 38 in the ITA rankings. Matuszak did not compete in last year's fall individual season.
Barry's team will compete in the Varner Tournament in Winter Park, Fla., Friday-Sunday.
