PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Barry University women's golf team shot 306 in the opening round of the Nova Southeastern Shark Guy Harvey Invitational Monday, and occupy third place in the two-day tournament.

Nova Southeastern leads the tournament after shooting 290, while Rollins is in second, five strokes ahead of the No. 4 nationally-ranked Buccaneers. Florida Tech is fourth, five strokes behind Barry, and Florida Southern is fifth at 310.

Barry's Nancy Vergara and Nicky Ferre each shot 3-over 74, and are tied with Incarnate Word's Flower Castillo for ninth individually on the 6,163-yard, par-72 PGA National Haig Course. Seminole State's Chanya Angwarawong leads the tournament after the first 18 holes, following her 1-under 71. Nova's Daniela Ortiz and Linnea Johansson shot par, and are lumped in a four-way tie for second with Florida Tech's Jessica Hook and Rollins' Annie Dulman.

Buccaneers sophomore Daniela Murray shot 77, and sits in a six-way tie for 19th. Taylor Babcock shot 9-over 81, and is tied for 41st. Barry teammate Maria Paola Fiorio shot 84.

Nova's Abbey Gittings and Lilliana Cammisa are tied with West Florida's Camila Sevillano in sixth at 1-over 73.

"It takes everybody to have a good team score," Buccaneers coach Shannon Sykora said. "As a team, we need to put it all together to move up the leaderboard."
