Barry Men's Basketball Mowed Down by Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. – This is one the Buccaneers would rather soon forget.

Barry men’s basketball team lost to No. 27 Florida Southern, 96-70, on the road Saturday night, snapping the Bucs’ three-game win streak.

The Buccaneers (6-4, 1-1 Sunshine State Conference) were playing catch-up most of the way. Despite taking an eight-point lead in the first half, the Bucs couldn’t seize control. The Moccasins (9-1, 2-0) closed the first half with a 33-15 run to take a 10-point halftime lead.

The Bucs never recovered in the second half.

Barry shot 29.1 percent from the field, going 16-for-55. Florida Southern shot 47.4 percent, going 36 of 76 from the floor. The Moccasins were 4 of 26 from long range.

Barry’s Aaron Martin and Filip Toric each scored 15, Justin McCoy had 14 and Magne Fivelstad 10. Toric and Fivelstad had seven rebounds apiece, but the Buccaneers were outrebounded, 47-40.

Barry was outscored 50-16 in the paint. Florida Southern’s bench outscored the Bucs, 54-9.

Seth Evans had 21 points, and Brett Bailey 20 for the Mocs.

The Buccaneers were 30 of 37 from the free throw line. Florida Southern hit 20 of 26 free throws. Barry gave up 20 second chance points, while scoring six of their own.

Barry will host Lynn at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Miami Shores.
