NEW YORK -- Barry University women's golf team rose to No. 5 in the Golf World/World Golf Coaches Assocation national poll released Thursday.
The Buccaneers, who are expecting a bid to the NCAA South Regional May 5-7 at Lone Palm Golf Club in Lakeland, have risen two spots in the last two polls. It is the highest ranking in 2013 for the Buccaneers.
"We've been working hard all spring, and we're starting to get some momentum heading into the NCAA Regional," Barry first-year head coach Shannon Sykora said. "We've had to overcome some injuries, and now that everybody's healty we can focus on our conditioning and golf.
"We have to put ourselves in position like we did at the conference championship to achieve our goal to qualify for nationals."
Nova Southeastern remained No. 1 in the poll, followed by St. Edward's, who leapfrogged Lynn. Rollins is fourth and Florida Southern sixth. Tarleton State is seventh, Grand Canyon eighth, Florida Tech ninth and Midwestern State 10th. NSU, Lynn, Rollins, Florida Southern and Florida Tech, like Barry, are all Sunshine State Conference members.
Fellow SSC participant Saint Leo fell from 15 to 20.
The pairings for the NCAA Regionals will be announced April 29 on www.ncaa.com.
