MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers fell 2-0 to the 10th-ranked Saint Leo Lions at Buccaneer Field on Monday in Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer action.

The Lions (8-1-1, 2-0-1 SSC) scored twice on deflected goals for the win.

In the fifth minute, Edgar Herrera took a pass back from Henry Adu and ripped a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off a Barry defender and past the keeper into the goal.

In the 54th minute, Herrera and Michael Panter worked a combination on a free kick, with Herrera rolling the ball to Panter who blasted a shot from the right wing that skipped off the head of a defender and into the goal.

The Bucs had a couple of golden scoring chances, but were unable to dent the scoreboard. In the 25th minute, Nico Gercke had two shots point blank near the left post, the Lion keeper Manuel Schoenhuber stopped both.  In the 66th minute, Thomas Coombes had a shot blocked in the box and Schoenhuber just got fingertips on Gercke’s attempt on the rebound. In the 74th minute, Patrick Drmola ripped a shot from just outside the box on which Schoenhuber made a diving save.

The Bucs (5-7-1, 2-2-0 SSC) held an 18-11 edge in shots, including 8-5 on goal, but Schoenhuber had eight saves to preserve the shutout. Johnny Rodrigues had three saves for the Bucs.

Barry hosts the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7:00 pm. The Buccaneers won the SSC +4 game 4-1 in Melbourne, Fla., on Sept 21.
