MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University men's basketball team fell four points shy of a school record in its 111-86 win over Puerto Rico-Mayaguez Thursday night in front of 834 in Health & Sports Center.

The Buccaneers (3-0) scored a school-record 115 points in a win over Puerto Rico-Humacao on Dec. 12, 1999.

Juan Ferrales had a career–high 28 points, hitting five of eight triples, and had four assists, four rebounds and three steals in 33 minutes. He was 7 of 13 from the floor and 9 of 11 from the free throw line.

The Buccaneers hit 53.6 percent of their shots, including 40 percent from beyond the arc, as five players reached double figures. Adrian Gonzalez finished with 22 points and six boards, going 11 of 15 from the field.

Barry point guard Deric Hill had a career-high 10 assists and six steals, while scoring 13 points and grabbing four rebounds. Magne Fivelstad and Yunio Barrueta each had 14 points. Fivelstad scored 10 of his points from the stripe, and had nine rebounds and a career-high six assists. Barrueta also had nine boards as Barry outrebounded Mayaguez (0-6) by 15.

The Bucs outscored the Tarzans, 55-32, in the paint, and 19-6 in transition. Barry's bench outscored Mayaguez, 41-17. Ten players scored for the Bucs, who are off for nine days when they host Belmont Abbey in the Barry Thanksgiving Classic two days after Turkey Day.

Gabriel Garcia scored 22 on eight of 16 shooting for the Tarzans, who shot 44.1 percent from the floor in a game that witnessed eight ties and six lead changes. Alexander Rivera had 17 points, and Jerome Carabello 13 points and seven boards for Mayaguez, who pulled down 33 rebounds.

The Bucs will host Nova Southeastern versus Belmont Abbey in the opener of the Thanksgiving Classic at 5 p.m. on Nov. 29 in HSC. The Buccaneers will tip off against Abbey at 7 p.m. the next night.
