MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry women’s basketball team dropped a 78-65 Sunshine State Conference decision to the Saint Leo Lions in the Health & Sports Center.
The Bucs (8-4, 1-2 SSC) jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes, but the Lions (13-3, 2-2 SSC) bounced back to tie the game at 19-19 on a layup by Teresa Manigrasso at the 9:27 mark. Manigrasso hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Lions into the break with a 38-35 lead.
The Lions pushed the lead to 49-41 in the first five minutes of the second half, but Colette Eule scored seven points in a 9-0 run, including a three-pointer at the 13:16 mark that gave the Bucs a 50-49 lead. After an exchange of baskets left the score tied at 55-55 on Tyler Hardy’s layup with 9:57, the Lions scored on three straight possessions to take a 61-55 lead and the Bucs were unable to get closer than two points the rest of the way as the Saint Leo closed on a 23-10 run.
Manigrasso led the Lions with 20 points, while Keishara Green and Chachi Guzman each had 12 and Chelsea Connolly added 10. Eule led the Bucs with 19 points, Hardy had 16, Ines Kerin 12 and Kaylia Richardson 10.
The Bucs play their next two games on the road, visiting Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Jan. 18 and Eckerd on Saturday Jan. 18.
