MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s baseball team split a pair of games against Alabama-Huntsville Friday night at Feinbloom field, dropping the first, 0-3, before coming back to win the night-cap, 8-0.

Game One

Barry (4-1) struggled to get their offense going in the series opener and were limited to just five hits throughout the game.

Billy Atkins took the loss despite allowing just three runs, one earned, in 6.1 innings of work and finished with 5 K’s.

A pair of errors proved to be costly for the Buccaneers who were shutout for the first time this season.

Tyler Howell tossed eight scoreless innings to notch the win for the Chargers (4-1).

Game Two

It didn’t take long for the Buccaneers to bounce-back from their first defeat of the season and Barry responded with an 8-0 romping over the Chargers.

Barry put eight runs on the board in an offensive outburst that included a five-run sixth, but the story of the game was the phenomenal pitching performance by Adrian Benitez (2-0).

Benitez used a heavy-dose of his cut-fastball to keep the Chargers bats silent in route to his first career complete-game shutout.

The right-hander allowed just three hits and fanned another career-high nine batters in the victory.

The Buccaneers jumped out to the early lead with a run in the first inning and added a pair of runs in the fourth, but it was the five-run sixth that put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Mike Diaz paced the offense with a 2-for-3 4 RBI night. Sheehan Planas and Adrian English also added a pair of hits on the night.

The Bucs and Chargers face-off Saturday for the final two games of the four-game set at Feinbloom field. Live-stats and video broadcast will be available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
